3 THINGS THURSDAY - 11th July 2019

Pic of the Week

This is my 91yr old dad Arthur. In this pic I’ve helped him escape from the Alfred hospital after hitting a low point post surgery. I wheeled him down to L’Hotel Gitan in Prahran for some oysters and a cold beer. Sometimes its the simple things that make life worth continuing to live for. He has promised me that when he is better we will be back and it will be his shout.

Here are the top three things that have made a difference in my week.
They might also be useful for you, or not.

1) An App I've just installed…
DEATH CLOCK.
This great little extension for Chrome will help you remember whats important as you watch your time left on earth countdown infront of your eyes. This is not a morbid vibe, but instead a reminder for me to do what matters most with the time I have. When the counter is down to hours left what do I wish I had said or done when there were years still on the counter?

2) A Doco I’ve watched…

The Dawn Wall.
Amazing doco is an unbelievable story of perseverance. Free climber Tommy Caldwell and climbing partner Kevin Jorgeson attempt to scale the impossible 3000ft Dawn Wall of El Capitan. It's available on Netflix, and maybe elsewhere. For me it shows me what can be achieved with determination and single mindedness, and the difference in peoples values (and thats ok).

3) A Book I’m reading again…
Jonathan Livingston Seagull
. A book with a bit more Wo-Wo than I normally read however, I sometimes like to challenge my thinking with something from a different section of the bookstore. Been ages since I read it (20yrs) but its still on my shelf. For me this book is about being willing to go against the grain, to be different and follow your truth. That everyone is on a different path (and thats ok). This book is a quick read (90mins).

Ps. My favorite quote this week is "If you take no risks, you will suffer no defeats. But if you take no risks, you win no victories.” Richard Nixon

I would love your feedback on what had an impact on you and the lesson in it, moral of the story, or learning you would share.

Have a ripper finish to your week.

Cheers, Dr. Ben
