3 THINGS THURSDAY - 4 May 2023

This week's Three Things Thursday I’ve dubbed “from head to toe”.

As a Chiropractor I’m passionate about the total health and well-being of individuals. So I’ve included a few things that have got me excited this week, one for the head, one for the belly and something for the feet. What I’m loving at the moment is a fantastic piece of equipment by the Foot Collective Australia called the “Sole Mate”. My wife and kids got me this as a birthday present a few weeks ago and I’ve been using it religiously to help keep my feet as functional and healthy as possible. The Sole Mate is a small kit that comes with a cork cylinder which becomes one of the most versatile pieces of exercise equipment I’ve ever used.  A roller to roll out the soles of the feet, toe separators (which I’m really loving) and a hacky sack. Along with the kit you get access to an extensive digital library of different foot exercises and activities put together by the team at The Foot Collective.  A really cool and fun piece of equipment.

Here are the top three things that have made a difference in my week.
They might also be useful for you, or not.

1) New recipe I tried..

Paleo almond, pecan and coconut crumbed chicken

So a few months ago with my wife and I decided to cut out processed grains and sugar from our diet. Now all that’s given us a fantastic boost to our health and wellbeing but I must admit that there’s a few things I’ve missed. This week I discovered a fantastic variation on crumbed chicken, which was absolutely delicious and so I thought I’d share the recipe with you.

2) Great documentary...

One Man, Two Feet, Three Peaks

While on the subject of feet and foot health, last week I watched the fascinating documentary “one man, two feet, three peaks” which follows barefoot and natural lifestyle guru Tony Riddle as he embarks upon a adventure to run up and down the three tallest mountains in the UK, while barefoot.

As if that isn’t enough of a challenge Tony also runs barefoot between each of the Mountains over the course of nine days, this amounts to him running two marathons each day. It’s a fascinating documentary and shows what we can do when we set our intention strongly enough on a goal, even in the face of adversity and setbacks there’s an inner strength we can all call on. I highly recommend it, it can be found on YouTube.

3) A book I read...

Jhana Consciousness

I recently finished reading an outstanding book called ‘Jhana Consciousness’ by Paul Denison. In the book the author discusses states of deep meditative concentration known as Jhanas and a practice called Samatha meditation. The book outlines the history and background of Samatha practice along with exploring the findings of recent published neuroscientific research, conducted on meditators who practice within this tradition. The book brings together two of my favourite subjects (meditation and neuroscience) and provides a wonderful synthesis and understanding from both traditional and scientific perspectives.

I wish you all the best on your journey, make a ritual of looking for the gold in your life, it is there, you just got to look.

P.s. The quote of the week is...

“We can’t all live in nature but we can all live more naturally” - Tony Riddle

I would love your feedback on what had an impact on you and the lesson in it, the moral of the story, or the learning you would share.

Have a ripper finish to your week.

Cheers, Dr. Ben
