3 THINGS THURSDAY - 22 June 2023

Over the past couple of weeks life has been pretty busy. Particularly work life, which is great. Treating more patients and pushing through some professional goals. However, it has also highlighted the fact that I really need to start looking after myself to ensure I am not only pushing through my work life, but also my home life. I have a tendency to withdraw and get very self critical when I’m feeling tired or run down, acknowledging this, I know it’s something I need to work on so I can give my whole to my clients and my family. Here are my three things I’m starting to work on to ensure I’m getting the most out of my days. Also this is me putting out my struggles to the greater community to keep myself accountable and maybe even help others who feel the same.

Here are the top three things that have made a difference in my week.
They might also be useful for you, or not.

1) Meal preparation...

Let’s be real, we are all so busy and prioritize different things that are important to us. My health is in the front of my mind at the moment and I need to prepare myself for this. Taking time each Sunday to prepare my breakfasts and prepping meals for dinner for the week ahead really helps. This helps me to make sure I (and my family) am eating the best foods possible to keep my energy levels up and help my body feel good. When I withdraw I become incredibly lazy and make terrible food choices, I’m choosing not to do this anymore and my body will not only feel better, but perform better.

2) Moving my body...

I’ll be honest, exercise has not been my friend. It’s never something that I’ve prioritised. I’ve tried so many times to break this habit, but I’ve always failed. I’ve been thinking a lot about why I have failed? And I think I’ve put too much pressure on myself and gone too hard. Instead, I am slowly bringing more activity in my life and will increase this as time moves forward. Pilates is something I’ve actually enjoyed, so I’m starting here along with getting out for a walk when I feel sluggish. So far so good, small steps towards my goals are better than nothing, and I’m happy with this.

3) Saying YES more...

Yes Day

I’m sounding a bit like a broken record here, but when I withdraw, I don’t want to do anything. Apart from the obvious of this not being great for me, it also really affects my husband and daughter. Self awareness is powerful, I know I’m not perfect and that’s ok, but I need to push myself to get out of my ‘funk’. So now, when my family ask me if I want to ‘go to the footy’, ‘colour in with me’, ‘go for a drive in the beetle’, I will be saying yes, much much more than I say no.

Anyone seen the movie Yes Day? Has anyone actually done one? I think we might give it a go 😊

Here’s to a more productive and fulfilling life.

Health all the way ⭐️⭐️⭐️

P.s. The quote of the week is...

“Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you.”

Katie Reed

I would love your feedback on what had an impact on you and the lesson in it, the moral of the story, or the learning you would share.

Have a ripper finish to your week.
